I have been teaching at El Rancho for thirteen wonderful, satisfying years. I have a degree in Spanish and I was hired by Mr. Besta while I was working on my Minor in French. I teach both at ER. I come from a lifelong career in the automotive repair and maintenance field, a business I still own with my three other brothers.I was born in the Middle East of Armenian parents during the Arab-Israeli War of 1946. I am one of triplets in a family of seven. In our early years, we lived in poverty, but NEVER a lack of LOVE.
I immigrated to the United States in 1956, where I spent my teenage years in New York. I attended a parochial school through high school, where I received an excellent and a value-full education. I married my childhood sweetheart in New York and we just celebrated our 43 wedding anniversary. We have two, grown, married boys. What made me choose teaching when I had a lucrative, thriving business, you ask? “My love for children”. I wrote a book a few years ago, “I Love You, Mr. K”, in which I explain my philosophy on teaching and life. It’s all you want to know about me and my interactions with my El Rancho students.
What I enjoy most about teaching is seeing the wonderful accomplishments of my present and former students…come to life. What former students remember most about me is my ”passion” for teaching—the jumping up and down, standing on chairs, singing, wearing ethnic garb—anything to grab and grasp the attention of my students toward the lesson to be taught. I chose teaching as a career to “touch the minds and hearts” of all my students who have contact with me. I am forever indebted to Mr. Besta, our principal, for seeing the good in me, and hiring me (at the age of 50) at El Rancho, THE BEST MIDDLE CHARTER SCHOOL in all of California. God bless you all.
